Authenticator
  • The means used to identify or verify the eligibility of a station, originator or individual to access specific categories of information. The authenticator may be a symbol, sequence of symbols, or series of prearranged bits that are usually inserted at a predetermined point within a message or transmission for the purpose of authentication.   • In Kerberos, information presented with a ticket that only the true party could send. Tested with information encrypted within the ticket that only the verifier can decrypt.
